A Little Introduction

When I finished high school last year, I thought of university as being a great adventure, a place of self discovery where I would make all kinds of cool friends that you just couldn't find in a small town. I thought it would be the place where everything would just fall into line, where I would magically know who I was and what I wanted to do with my life. To a small extent, this has held true. I've met some really  fun people through volleyball intramurals and the usual shenanigans that occur in a university residence, everything else, though... not so much! This adventure has so far consisted of a lot of very hard work, stress, and loneliness, although somehow I feel many adventures turn out this way and are not nearly as glamorous as one would have liked to believe. Along the way, I have found myself questioning my original aspiration of becoming a vet. The only thing that's really certain right now is that I want horses to be a part of my life, whether that means working with them or just having the time to ride outside of my career.
I would say the worst part about university is being torn away from my horses, with no way to go home on weekends to ride. It sucks! But, oh well, this blog is not meant to be sad and whiny, at least I have high speed internet where I can watch Grand Prix dressage and training videos so I can figure out my next step with my young horse and how to get my naughty pony doing flying changes without bucking around the arena! Let me introduce you to my two superstars:

Reckless! He was just two in this picture. He is the result
of a breeding experiment between my neighbours Arab stud
and my Heinz 57 do-it-all pony, Budget, when I was 13.

At a fun show when he was 3. Isn't he adorable!?

And now he is looking magnificent at 7 years. I am
so proud to be able to say I trained him right from
                                         the get-go!

This handsome fellow is my summer project that
I just couldn't let go! Paxton is a 2 year old Pandoer baby! :)

                                         Who loooooves getting snuggles!

                                                   And being a goof!

These two are my pride and joy. Reck is an (almost) third level dressage horse who tops out at a whopping 14.3hh. Don't let his size fool you, though, he is the herd bossman wherever he goes and we've received as high as 72% in second level. I backed him and have done all the training on him (with the help of instructors of course) and just love the little rascal! Paxton is Reck's polar opposite: he's 16.2hh at 2 years old and is as sweet as pie. Despite being a TB/ Dutch Warmblood cross he is incredibly chill and rocked the trails on his fifth ride ever! Can't wait to see what I can turn this boy into :)

 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
